Where do you go to find an angel? Here are a few of the very best places to start your search. Networking One of the best ways to find an angel is networking with as many people as you can, telling them about your business opportunity and your search for investors. You never know who may be interested in throwing a little money your way: your lawyer, your accountant, your doctor, a friend of a friend, a rich aunt they all may be looking for a place to invest their cash. The more people you talk to about your opportunity, the greater the chances that an angel will appear. That means getting out of your office and setting aside time to socialize with others. Playing golf is a time-honored way of mixing business with pleasure countless deals have been struck on the links. If your college alumni group has a chapter in your area, you can join it and start attending functions. Becoming active in local business associations, such as the Association for Corporate Growth or the Chamber of Commerce, or in a national service organization, such as the Lion's Club, Rotary, or Jaycees, is a great way to meet potential angels. The more people you tell about your opportunity, the better your chance of finding the capital you need. Lists There are a variety of sources for finding an angel in your neighborhood (none of which is complete). Perhaps the best-known angel network is a quasi-government facility called the Access to Capital Electronic Network (Ace-Net), which matches angels and entrepreneurs. The MIT Enterprise Forum is a facility that invites entrepreneurs to present business plans. It isn't an angel network per se, but it's a way to reach angel investors. Internet The Internet is fast becoming an excellent resource for finding angels or groups of angels who are interested in investing in all kinds of different businesses. Although it may never be an adequate substitute for the old-fashioned face-to-face interaction that meeting angels in social situations provides, no search for angel investors would be complete without checking the Internet for information about angel investing and to meet potential angel investors. |
